Membership Rates and Benefits

Ugly Dumpling Studio is designed to be a space for artists to use shared equipment and workspace that may otherwise be difficult to house or afford at home. We aim to create an environment that is comfortable, accessible, and affordable for both professional and hobby artists to work and grow. We hope to cultivate a friendly and inclusive community on the West side of Madison where artists have the opportunity to connect with others, to participate or host classes and critiques, and to showcase their work to the community during public events.

To keep studio membership rates as low as possible, and to structure membership benefits in a way that does not charge members for services and equipment they have no plans to use, we have created four options for studio membership: Daily Drop-in rate, Monthly Equipment Usage rate, Monthly Space Usage rate, and a Teaching rate. There are separate add-ons for storage space for those in need of a place to keep their supplies and works in progress. Storage availability may be limited based on current levels of studio membership.

Daily Drop-in: $25 per day

Best for members who plan to use the studio for fewer than 3 days per month, and do not need storage. Benefits include:

• Access to the space for one day, to be unlocked by a staff or senior member of
the studio. No key holding for this rate.
• Access to all printmaking and large equipment after a one-time orientation session and signoff, to be reviewed annually with a staff or senior member of the studio or when new large equipment is added to the space.
• Access to all hand tools and communal supplies and spaces.
• Wifi access and guest login for networked computer stations.

Monthly Equipment Usage: $100 per month

Best for members who plan to use printmaking equipment or other large equipment at least 4 days per month, and want access to storage space. Benefits include:

• Access to space 24/7 with key or fob.
• Access to all printmaking and large equipment after orientation and signoffs, to be reviewed as needed when new equipment is added.
• Access to all hand tools and communal supplies and spaces.
• Storage for 1 silkscreen
• Wifi access and individual password-protected login for networked computer stations
• Access to the Ugly Dumpling discord server for communication with other members and studio member meetings
• Complimentary attendance of 1 fee-based community event per month when available (ex: figure drawing sessions)
• Access to all studio-led critique sessions

• 15% discount on all studio-led classes when available
• Group order discounts on popular art supply websites (ex: French Paper company, Dharma Trading Company, etc.)
• Display spot during Gallery events and or Open Houses for the public
• Up to 3 listings on Ugly Dumpling’s online store for commission-based sales

Monthly Space Usage: $50 per month

Best for members who need workspace and storage space, but no printmaking or large equipment usage. Benefits include:

• Access to space 24/7 with key or fob.
• Access to all hand tools and communal supplies and spaces.
• Wifi access and individual password-protected login for networked computer stations
• Access to the Ugly Dumpling discord server for communication with other members and studio member meetings
• Complimentary attendance of 1 fee-based community event per month when available
(ex: figure drawing sessions)
• Access to all studio-led critique sessions
• 15% discount on all studio-led classes when available
• Group order discounts on popular art supply websites (ex: French Paper company,
Dharma Trading Company, etc.)
• Display spot during Gallery events and or Open Houses for the public

Teaching Rate:

$50 for first hour of class time, $25 per additional hour of class time, plus Daily Drop-in rate for non-Monthly members. Benefits include:

• Access to the studio on class day and 2 hours on a day prior class day for planning and preparation (for Daily Drop-in rate).
• Advertising on social media and newsletter for classes
• All other Daily Drop-in rate benefits

Storage Rates:

For locked cubbies, flat files, and silkscreen storage. Space is limited, and extra storage may not always be available.

• Silk screen: $3 per screen (max 4 additional screens)
• Locked cubby: $5 per cubby
• Flat file: $10 per drawer
• Storage bundle: $15 for one locked cubby, one flat file drawer, and one screen
